World AIDS Day

World AIDS Day is on 1 December. First proclaimed by the World Health Organisation (WHO) in 1988, this day for awareness and solidarity with HIV-positive people and people living with AIDS has a specific motto each year, chosen by UNAIDS. This year's motto is: End inequalities. End AIDS. End Pandemics

Especially in view of the current pandemic-related challenges, a sense of responsibility and commitment to living together in solidarity are particularly important. Aids Hilfe Wien therefore organises numerous activities around World AIDS Day to draw attention to the issue of HIV and to counter discrimination against people living with HIV. All activities are adapted to the current situation and take place either online or as visibility actions in public spaces. In this sense: Turn On - Tune In - Take Responsibility for Global Solidarity.

Information on HIV& AIDS

HIV is the abbreviation for "Human Immunodeficiency Virus". Shortly after infection (up to 2 weeks), HIV infection is usually accompanied by flu-like symptoms (these are so non-specific that they are usually not recognized). As the infection progresses, after varying amounts of time, the immune system weakens and certain diseases appear. A person who has contracted HIV is called HIV-positive.

HIV leads to a weakening of the immune system in the course of infection. This makes it easier for diseases to occur that a healthy organism can usually ward off. One speaks of AIDS when either defined diseases already occur and/or the immune system is severely weakened. AIDS is the abbreviation for "Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome".

Wiener Linien Zeigen Flagge

From 22.11- 6.12.2021 all trams in Vienna will run with flags showing the logo of Aids Hilfe Wien with the "Red Ribbon".

"Wiener Linien stands for tolerance and solidarity. With the flags on our more than 500 trams, we also set a visible sign for fair coexistence," says Wiener Linien Managing Director Alexandra Reinagl.

In this sense, activities around World AIDS Day, such as the flag campaign with Wiener Linien, contribute significantly to raising awareness in order to ultimately reduce discrimination in connection with HIV. "Wiener Linien stands for tolerance and solidarity. With the flags on our more than 500 trams, we also set a visible sign for fair coexistence," says Wiener Linien Managing Director Alexandra Reinagl.

Many thanks for supporting the tram lines to the following people or companies/entities: All you need to do is send a description of your campaign with a suitable photo/flyer, etc. and further information to office@aids-hilfe-wien.at.
